Hatha Flow with Susan Walk-In Class (Wednesdays)

Hatha yoga is the most widely practiced form of yoga in America. It is the branch of yoga which concentrates on physical health and mental well-being. Hatha yoga uses asana (postures) , breathing techniques (pranayama), and Dyana (meditation) to bring awareness of the body mind connection. There are hundreds of Hatha yoga postures and variations that work to make the spine supple and to promote circulation in all the organs, glands, and tissues. Hatha yoga postures also strengthen and stretch the body, promoting balance and flexibility, with a concentration on proper alignment.

Wednesday class is a challenging class offered to level 1 & 2 to build strength and flexibility practicing the basic Hatha yoga poses. We begin with 3 minutes of Pranayama ( is the formal practice of controlling the breath, which is the source of our prana, or vital life force ) 10 minutes of a grounding & centering meditation. The class continues with seated warmups of neck, arms, spine and hips and we progress slowly and build heat in standing postures, holding simple poses for 2-3 breaths. Class moves towards cooling and stretching the muscles, with savasana (dead mans pose or rest period) as the final 10-15 minutes.
